Terrible Lizards Characters

Terrible Lizards has a small cast and a large park. Most of the story is carried by three voices: Jordan, the college student who arrives by accident; Stella, the paleontologist on the other end of the headset; and Dalton, the park's founder, who is heard through tapes rather than seen. The rest of the cast fills in the history around them.

This page lists the people and the mascots, explains their roles and separates the characters who appear in the game from the ones who are only described. It contains spoilers for the story and the ending.

Jordan

Jordan is the player character: a college student road-tripping from Chicago to Los Angeles before the fall semester. He is a student-athlete, polite, quick with a joke and completely out of his depth. He cannot swim, which becomes a problem in the flooded sections.

Jordan's role is to be a normal person in an abnormal place. He is not a scientist and he does not have special knowledge. His skills are the ones the game teaches: running, climbing, wall-running and not stopping when something roars.

The game gives Jordan a voice but not a detailed backstory. His family, his school and his plans after the trip are mentioned in passing. The point is that he had a life before the park, and the park is trying to take it.

Stella

Stella is a paleontologist and a longtime friend of Dalton and Elena Coolidge. She is off-site when the game begins, which is why she survives the initial disaster. She reaches Jordan through a headset and becomes the voice in his ear: directions, context and the occasional warning.

Stella is the game's exposition delivery system, but she is also a character with a stake in the outcome. She knew DJ. She worked with Dalton. Her instructions are not neutral; she wants Jordan to find out what happened to the family.

The headset conversations are optional in places and automatic in others. If you skip them, you lose context but not access. The story explained page collects the information Stella provides.

Dalton Coolidge

Dalton is the park's founder, a paleontologist and DJ's father. He is missing for the entire game. His presence comes through audio tapes, notes and the trail he leaves: doors propped open, lights switched on, equipment moved.

Dalton's tapes are the emotional core of the story. He starts as a proud showman, becomes a worried father and ends as a man who is clearly not okay. The performance is one of the game's strongest assets, and it is delivered entirely through found footage and audio.

Dalton's route is also the player's route. Jordan retraces it through the museum, the backstage areas, the mining outposts and the caverns. The walkthrough hub follows the same path.

Elena Coolidge

Elena is Dalton's wife, the park's co-founder and DJ's mother. She appears through letters rather than tapes. Her voice is more controlled than Dalton's, and her letters provide the family context: the park's financial pressure, DJ's illness and the disagreement about Dennis.

Elena is not a puzzle to solve. She is the character who makes the park's decline personal. The letters show a family trying to keep a business and a child alive at the same time, and failing at both.

DJ

DJ is Dalton and Elena's son and the missing child at the center of the story. He is alive underground for most of the game, cared for by Dennis. He is not a monster and he is not a ghost; he is a kid who has been away from the surface for a long time.

DJ's dialogue is limited. He recognizes Jordan, he follows him and he recognizes Stella's car at the end. The game uses those small recognitions to show that DJ is still there. The ending explained page covers the final scene.

Dr. Fellows

Dr. Fellows is the scientist whose body holds the key Jordan needs in Chapter 4. Fellows is tied to the park's underground work and to the sabotage that traps people below. The game does not give Fellows a large speaking role; the character is defined by what they did and what they left behind.

Fellows is the closest thing the story has to an antagonist, but the game does not frame them as a villain. The sabotage is a decision made under pressure, and the consequences are the game's problem to solve.

Spoilers

Fellows is dead when Jordan finds them. The key is on the body, and taking it triggers the Dennis chase. The Chapter 4 walkthrough covers the sequence.

Dennis

Dennis is two characters in one: the Dilophosaurus Paleo Pal mascot and the entity that cares for DJ underground. The game never explains the connection. The Dennis page covers the evidence and the most popular theory.

The Paleo Pals

The Paleo Pals are the park's mascot lineup. Four suits appear in the museum and in storage:

  • Benji — Brontosaurus. The friendly giant.
  • Alistair — Allosaurus. The cool one.
  • Stephanie — Stegosaurus. The gentle plant-eater.
  • Dennis — Dilophosaurus. The odd one out.

The suits are a FNAF-style nod: friendly characters in a place that is no longer friendly. The game uses them for atmosphere and for the "Paleo Pal Review" achievement, which requires interacting with each mascot's talk box. The achievements page covers the unlock.

The mascots are not the monsters

Benji, Alistair and Stephanie are suits. Dennis is a suit and something else. The all monsters page covers the creatures.

The voice cast

The game credits its cast in the end credits and on the store page, but the roles are not widely documented outside the game. Dalton's tapes, Stella's headset calls and Jordan's reactions are the performances that carry the story. If you are looking for a specific actor, the in-game credits are the reliable source.
