What happens at the end of Terrible Lizards: DJ, Dennis, the Crew Lift, Stella's car and the questions the game leaves open. Full spoilers.
Terrible Lizards Ending Explained
Terrible Lizards ends on a rescue and a recognition. Jordan finds DJ alive, gets him out of the park, and the last shot is DJ looking at Stella's car. The creature that kept DJ alive is left unresolved. The game does not tell you what Dennis was, whether it survived the fall or what happens to DJ after the credits.
This page walks through the final chapter in order and separates the confirmed events from the interpretation. It is a full-spoiler page. The Chapter 4 walkthrough covers the route and the platforming; this page covers the story.

The setup
Jordan arrives at Dalton's Dinos on September 19, 1992, after his car dies on Route 66. Stella, a paleontologist and friend of the park's founders, contacts him through a headset and asks him to find out what happened to Dalton and his son. Dalton is missing. DJ has been missing longer. The park's staff are gone. Something is living below the attraction.
The game's chapters descend through the park: the museum, the backstage corridors, the mining outposts, the flooded electrical rooms and finally the caverns under the dig site. The final chapter is the ascent back to the surface.
The Crew Lift
The escape route is the Crew Lift, an industrial elevator that connects the underground complex to the surface. It needs a safety key, and the key is in Cavern B. Jordan retrieves it, returns to the lift and starts the ascent with DJ.
The ascent is the game's final set piece. The lift is not a sealed box; it is an open structure, and Dennis follows Jordan up the moving parts. The sequence is a climb: wall runs, ledge grabs, moving platforms and a pursuer that keeps coming. There is no weapon, no health bar and no way to damage Dennis. The only way out is to get above it and knock it off the structure.
Dennis falls. The game does not show a body or a death animation. The lift continues, and Jordan and DJ reach the surface.
Everything below this box describes the final scene and the post-credits state of the story.
DJ's condition
DJ is alive and physically intact. He has been living underground, near Dennis, for long enough to treat the arrangement as normal. He is not feral and he is not hostile. He recognizes Jordan as someone who came to help, and he follows him out.
The game does not explain how DJ survived. The letters and tapes suggest he became ill after Dennis appeared, and the environment suggests the black biomass was involved. Whether DJ was changed by it, cured by it or simply exposed to it is left open.
The one object that anchors DJ's old life is his Allosaurus tooth. Jordan retrieves it from Dennis's collection. The tooth is a childhood possession, and getting it back is the moment the rescue becomes personal rather than procedural.
The final scene
On the surface, DJ sees Stella's car and says something like "Auntie Stella's car." The line is the first time DJ sounds like a child rather than a survivor. The game cuts to credits.
There is no epilogue. The game does not show Stella arriving, Dalton's fate, the park being shut down or Dennis's body being found. It does not confirm that DJ is cured. It ends on recognition: DJ remembers his life before the park.
That is the emotional resolution. The plot resolution is deliberately partial.
What the ending means
The ending works as a rescue story with an open monster. Jordan's goal is to find DJ and get him out, and he does. Dennis's goal is to keep DJ, and it fails. The game does not need to explain Dennis to complete Jordan's arc.
The ambiguity is also a horror device. The Hybrid, the black biomass and the park's history are all left partly unexplained. The ending continues that pattern rather than resolving it. The story explained page gathers the lore that the game does provide.
The most popular reading is that Dennis was once a person, possibly the enlisted teenager from the letters, mutated by the tar-like substance and left with a child's need for company. The Dennis page covers that theory and the evidence for it. The game does not confirm it.
Is there another ending?
No. Terrible Lizards has one main ending. The developers cut a branching ending during production. The four stuffed animals on pedestals are optional collectible content and do not unlock an alternate finale. There is no post-credits scene that changes the story.
New Game Plus adds modifiers, not story. The New Game Plus page explains the four modifiers and how to unlock them.
Placing all four stuffed animals completes "You Go Here" and adds a small optional scene, but it does not branch the ending or resurrect Dennis. The achievement is the reward.
The unanswered questions
The game leaves several threads open:
- What was Dennis? The game confirms the caretaking but not the origin.
- Did Dennis survive? No body, no confirmation. The fall is the last shot.
- What happened to Dalton? Dalton's tapes and breadcrumbs drive the middle chapters. The ending does not show him.
- What was the park doing underground? The dig, the biomass and the Hybrid imply experiments. The game shows the results, not the program.
- Is DJ cured? The letters imply an illness; the ending shows a child who recognizes a car. Nothing more.
These are deliberate gaps, not cut content. The developers have described the story as a rescue with a monster that stays a monster.

FAQ
Does DJ die? No. DJ survives and reaches the surface with Jordan.
Does Dennis die? Dennis falls from the lift. The game does not confirm a death.
Is Stella in the ending? Only through her car. Stella is on the headset for most of the game and does not appear in the final scene.
Is there a post-credits scene? No.
Can you get a better ending? No. The ending is fixed. Collectibles and New Game Plus do not change it.
The ending is short, and that is the point. Terrible Lizards is a game about getting a child out of a place that does not want to let him go. It does that, and then it stops. The characters page covers the people in the final scene, and the walkthrough hub links every chapter if you want to replay the route.
